Motorcoach CouncilThe Motorcoach Council is a philanthropic, not-for-profit, public interest organization dedicated to educating potential riders about the availability, selection, and benefits of motorcoach transportation across North America. Ours is a transportation mode designed to move groups of all shapes, sizes, age, race, and income and we want people to understand that motorcoaches provide cost-effective mobility to millions of Americans at virtually no cost to taxpayers.  While other transportation sectors receive billions in annual federal subsidies, motorcoaches account for a mere 6 cents in federal subsidies per passenger trip. Reliable data show that public transit costs 77 cents per passenger trip, commercial air carriers cost $4.32 per passenger trip, and Amtrak costs $46.06 in taxpayer subsidies per passenger trip (additional data available at www.buses.org).

The Council is a public service, community-centric solution to many of the challenges we face as a nation. Without burdening the taxpayer, we can take cars off the road, provide everyday solutions to surface congestion on our highways, reduce emissions more than any other mode of transportation and reduce the greenhouse effect on our planet, as well as the carbon footprint of its inhabitants.

Motorcoach CouncilDuring a time when our nation is frustrated by the volatile cost of fuel, and growing inconveniences and expense of air travel, we provide a safe, convenient, affordable means of transportation. In addition, traveling by coach is a memorable and relaxing experience that enables friends, families and even total strangers to sit back, share a ride and enjoy a hands-free environment that also permits them to use laptops, iPhones, Blackberries and other favorite gadgets while they watch the country’s majestic landscape roll by their window.

The Motorcoach Council works to create public awareness, shift perception of the coach, and change consumer preferences. The Council aims not only to add the motorcoach to the consumer’s list of viable transportation options, but additionally to rise above the competition and trump the consumer’s preference for trains, planes and personal automobiles as the transportation mode of choice.

The Motorcoach Council’s long-term vision includes outreach programs that collaborate with like-minded, not-for-profit entities that share our drive to reduce emissions, encourage carpooling, and take cars off the road. We welcome and encourage partnerships and alliances with groups such as M.A.D.D. (to reduce the number of fatalities due to drunk driving each year), Ride-Arrangers, Ride-Share, California Air Resources Board, Community Transportation Association of America, www.OurFutureNow.org, Community Transportation, The Action Network, The Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Miles for Babies, American Hydrogen Association, The Alliance for Renewable Energy, Bio-diesel America and the Coalition for Clean Air.

Motorcoach CouncilThe Council’s diverse list of partnerships also includes a network of organizations both outside and within our industry: banks, casinos, visitor bureaus/CVBs, senior citizen housing communities, government officials, corporations and professionals, insurance agencies, coach manufacturers and operators, cultural and historic destinations, government agencies, national parks, resorts, sporting arenas, shopping malls, golf courses, spas, ski resorts, schools, churches, and many more.

By working with these associations, we can pool resources and increase media opportunities to reach North Americans with enticing news articles, press releases, and reporter ride along opportunities. We can create educational documentaries and campaigns that encourage North Americans to clean up and preserve our nation’s national parks and open spaces. Using the media, the Council can better educate the public about the comprehensive amenities, luxuries and green aspects of motorcoach transportation. By forming these strategic alliances, we can create a robust economy and foster community development.

Motorcoach CouncilIn an effort to serve the public, and effectively achieve its goals, the Council also works with individual motorcoach operators within the private sector to encourage them to use Green Initiatives as a public service and environmental solution. Our progressive and dynamic outlook pushes us to consistently seek green solutions to lessen the impact of transportation on our society.  Our use of alternative fuels and cutting edge engine technology are just two examples. On this link, you will find tips to educate bus and motorcoach operators around the country about new ways to reduce their carbon footprint in every department from training to asset acquisition and shop practices!

The Council’s efforts will create jobs, increase spending in the tourism industry, and help get North Americans out of their homes and back on the road -- all of which will start putting money back into our economy.
